Kim Krushell

President, Lending Assist

Growing up in Laguna Beach in the 60’s, a product of hippie parents and very conservative grandparents, I realized at a young age that change is the one constant in life. I learned to not be afraid to speak up, to not take things personally, and to always work hard no matter what job you have. I am a total extrovert and big-picture thinker, but I don’t like to take credit for anything—when our team succeeds, I succeed. What makes me get up in the morning is the opportunity to work with a team who can take an idea and shape it into reality. Leading Lending Assist, a tech startup, is something I never expected to be doing, but like my chaotic childhood, I wouldn’t be the same without it.

Although Lending Assist was created through my husband’s vision to speed up his commercial lending practice and deliver better service to his clients, his passion and vision for the future of the company has ultimately become my own. It didn’t take much convincing to step away from my career in politics and put my political mind and problem-solving skills towards a new challenge. Working with a team of bright and motivated young people, our software has been well-received by the market, with plans for nation-wide expansion.

In the fast-paced world of tech it’s always in the back of my mind that our product can be relevant one day and obsolete the next. Innovate or die is our reality, so we are constantly scanning for what new technology is on the horizon, from incorporating artificial intelligence to figuring out how quantum computing will change the business environment. However, I have also realized that you can have the best technology in the world, but if you don’t respect your team and deliver on promises to customers, you will fail. Our team keeps it real by personally reaching out to our customers and doing what we can to help them deliver the best possible experience to their own clients. As I learned growing up, you can’t stop change but you can shape it, and that’s exactly what we’re doing at Lending Assist.

Justin Trombley

Manager Business Development, Lending Assist

Every day, I am energized to work with the best and brightest minds to solve some big problems.

The opportunity to join Lending Assist, an exciting, innovative legal tech startup, seemed like a natural fit to merge my biggest passions—big-picture strategic thinking and detailed execution to bring a vision to life. I have been fortunate to have a role in taking on some of the largest technical and legal challenges in the commercial lending industry, and am a firm believer that there is no issue that cannot be solved.

Like many startups, Lending Assist was built from an industry pain point. For hardworking business owners, borrowing the money needed to grow their business was a lengthy and expensive process, and they were not kept in the loop with the progress of their loan. At the same time, lenders were looking for alternative solutions to lawyers for getting money to borrowers. While I am not a lawyer myself, I work with enough to know it would not be in anyone’s best interest if lawyers were out of a job—there would never be an open tee time again!

We are disrupting the commercial lending industry and challenging the stereotype that lawyers are not innovative leaders in their field. Our technology and processes have reduced the time it takes for borrowers to receive their money by over two weeks, all while passing cost savings to borrowers, lenders, and law firms.

Like any successful company, the execution is based on the quality of the team, and our brilliant team of lawyers, developers, and strategic partners push the boundaries of what’s possible and allow us to be leaders in our space.

System Administrator, Lending Assist

Born and raised in Toronto, a fast paced metropolis full of diversity and culture, I enjoy utilizing my passion for people in my day to day life. By making the industry leap from sales to the legal field in 2015, I found professional success through obtaining a position at Witten LLP which ultimately led me to Lending Assist. I am the System Administrator for the technology that is housed within this Edmonton start-up company, and thrive on meeting the needs of our clients daily. Being used to the hustle and bustle of a large city, my savvy thinking and quick response to conflict, allows me to excel in my new role. In my spare time, I enjoy continuing my passion for people and equality through volunteering monthly at the Edmonton Food Bank as well as being an active member on a planning committee for Edmonton’s citywide initiative “Women and Money”- designed to empower women financially.
